Sales department, one week ago: “Hey, can somebody draw these shelves in the rooms we’re selling?”
Me, one week ago: *flailing on other project*. Sales today: “Did anybody draw the shelves?” Me.”...” *checks info from shelf guys... from TWO weeks ago*. *doesn’t fit*. Sales: “Hey shelf guys, jk on that purchase order from two weeks ago. Pls fix”.

I’m the only Draftsman in a office of project managers and salesmen. I’m currently working on 4 different projects for 3 different people. I’ve developed an involuntary twitch to the phrase “Hows it coming?”.

Honestly I should’ve taken a “sick day” today but I came in because if I didn’t I would completely drown on Monday.

The twitch is real. I have this Dilbert on the wall:

The status of my current projects is, by project:

Waiting on requote to draw new wacky version of room and ducting

Waiting on input as to how the lighting will be installed and preferred ducting type

Waiting on okay for provisional ducting plan

(Now) waiting on requote from shelving guys

Reorganizing sheet metal assembly to use new and (old) new parts, because main drawing is two generations old

Beginning work on completely new cabinet, with no info on blower inlet ring or frame structure on coil - both of which are important

Outside of those, waiting for more shit to hit the fan on a conversion project and whatever wacky things we need to build today.

Needless to say I don’t take too many fridays off either.

So, you list 7 projects, 5 of which have you waiting. That means you have extra time while you wait to get more stuff done.

#3 actually moved and is (probably) done. For now. Heard back on #4, could go forward with it, but no rush. Currently planning to go ahead on #2 despite lingering questions, because the job I’m clocked into is Sales and not Production, and eh.
